“H” is for Heart

heart

Thanks to MyGurumi for the free Pop Heart Pattern.  Thinking of the letter of the week, I realized this is week 8 of the new year.  By the time I’m done with the alphabet, a half a year will have passed.

Now, what to do for letter “I” ??? This is going to be a hard one.

Earrings for Purim

Purim Earrings Hamentashen CookiesI just finished these great Hamentashen earrings and put one pair up for sale in my etsy shop.  I made a bunch over the last few days and tried different fillings – wool roving looked hairy – beads looked too lumpy – so, decided on felt.  The felt triangles are easy to pop in and out with a pair of tweezers – you just poke them into the corners – and you can have any flavor you like – poppy, raspberry, apricot or almond.  These were definitely fun to make despite the itsy bitsy crochet hook and sore fingers (they’re 1/2” long each).

What’s Purim?  See here.

It is ImpawsibleToResist – E.T. Shop of the Week

http://www.impawsibletoresist.etsy.com/

This is a little peek at my favorite pick from this week’s Etsy Twitter Shop of the Week, ImpawsibleToResist. The first thing that I liked reading about, was that this was a mom, daughter & sister shop.  How fantastic is it that they can all work and sell together?!  Take a look at the shop … I’d love to hear what your favorites are.

Here’s a special from the Etsy Twitter blog: SPECIAL for this week only: All ACEOs are $1.00 off for the week. Buyers should send a message to the seller to apply coupon.

Tiny Dolls Complete

tiny dolls hug tiny dolls

I started these last week when I mentioned the occasional creepiness of doll-making.  Here they are – completed!  I wish I had sewn the feet and arms facing the opposite direction on one of them, as they are – they don’t look at each other unless posed as above!  I never made them as a “couple” before – so I will just have to remember that for next time.

These will be going out in tomorrow’s mail… Dollmakers – do you miss dolls that you’ve sold or given away? I was recently thinking about this elephant doll that flew all the way to England!  Her new owner named her Trixie and I’m soooo glad there are people who appreciate the things that I make.

“F” & “G” – Finished & Green

Back in January (why does it seem so long ago?) I decided to pick up and finish a headband that I was working on – from a kit – from the fabulous CraftLeftovers shop.

 IMG_0046IMG_0044

It buttons on the other side and I’m glad my daughter likes it.  So, it’s Finished & Green. (F is for last week, I’m a little late!)  Why the alphabet posts each week? Because I follow along at the Craftside blog & decided to jump on the letter-of-the-week bandwagon.  It helps me focus on what I’m making each week & to come up with blog posts!

I was so surprised about a week ago when I got an email saying that I was one of the Craftside winners for the weekly Alphabet contest!  Within a few days I had the most beautiful craft book mailed to me:

Lampwork Beads & Glass JewelryIf you click on the picture, you’ll be taken to the review of it, filled with gorgeous photos from the book.   Craftside has slowly become one of my favorite reads each day.  The pictures are always fantastic and the content is always fresh.  Enjoy the link!

Spring 2009 Colors

pantone spring 2009 colors

Ever since I saw the Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2009, I’ve been thinking about them.  I’m working on some new projects and wondering if I should work with “trendy” colors, or just choose what I like.  But something keeps nagging at me – shouldn’t I work with trendy if I want to sell my items?

I’m also thinking that I should definitely work with what I have – use the fabrics, beads and yarns that I’ve been hoarding for years instead of buying more supplies.  Now that I’m typing it, I know that’s where I’m going to have to lean as I work on projects this year.  Save money, be frugal, recycle, reuse, reinvent.  If I look carefully… I’ll bet I have many of these colors stashed away and get to create and be trendy at the same time.  Any crafters out there thinking about trends?

Why Doll Making is Slightly Creepy

In my opinion, it’s the body parts. Arms, legs, heads, sitting on the countertop.  Granted, these I’m working on aren’t life-like or realistic, but still… it’s just a bit creepy.

mini dolls

Like lots of other people, I saw the movie Coraline this weekend, and I can’t wait to see if there’s a resurgence in doll making.  Or will it just be creepy doll making?  If you’re reading this, I’m curious if you’ll be making any dolls in the near future.  What was your inspiration?

The pattern above isn’t mine, it’s a freebie you can get here.

Tinker and Po – E.T. Shop of the Week

angora

Nothing makes me happier than the color red, and these felted, red angora fingerless gloves make me so happy! The Tinker and Po shop is so lovely and I have to point out that every item is 100% repurposed and 10% of all sales are donated to autism research in their son, Declan's, name.

Not only do I love her items, recycling, and charity, but her shop pictures are great.  Everything looks uniform and part of a whole. (I’m almost intimidated, need to work on my business!)

Please visti this Etsy Twitter Team shop of the week, Tinker and Po – I’d love to hear what your favorite pick is!

“E” is for Embroidery

Love Letters Amore

Now that I look at this, I’m not thrilled with the cephalopod-like stitches coming out of the “o”.  I need to work on that.

I’m doing a letter of the week, thanks to the Craftside site!

Game Board Jewelry Display

I am so, so pleased with this project.  I think it would look fantastic with just about any game board, too!  After last night’s posts, I made a few changes and improved it a little more. Here goes:

Tamdoll's Display

There are tile racks on the front and back now, the front are held on with the screws from the back.

Cup hooks will hold the jewelry on the front.  On the back (sorry, the picture came out blurry), there are tiny quick nuts, (that’s what I think they’re called), holding the cup hooks on. (Without the help of my local hardware store, I would never have known what to use for these things! Thanks guys!!)  I would advice anyone doing this to wait until they have their cup hooks before drilling holes.  I was so excited about this project, I just went ahead and made the holes without  knowing how big the hooks would be and they holes I made were too big.  Before screwing everything on, I added some E6000 glue.   These were pretty sharp sticking out on the back, so I dabbed some more glue on the tips and pressed a piece of foam board over it.

Tamdoll's Display IITamdoll's Display III

It’s stable now and no screws showing, so I’m pretty happy with it! I guess I’ll have to keep making these necklaces now!

You can find these at Apotheca Flowers & Tea Chest.  Lots of sweet, red and pink Scrabble Tile Charm Necklaces!

Scrabble Tile Necklace Retail Display

I’m ready to update a display with new scrabble charm necklaces and want to make sure they all hang and can be seen:

Scrabble Tile Charm Necklaces All of a sudden, while stringing the charms, inspiration hit!

front of display back of display

I drilled holes in strategic places to have the necklaces hang from.  I screwed in two of the letter racks onto the back to hold it up.  I think it’s going to look great once I get everything hanging.  First, I have to stop at the hardware store tonight to get some “S” hooks to put in the holes, and some covers for the back of the screws, too (for safety) – maybe some heavy nuts to weigh the back side down a bit more, too.  More pictures in the morning when I get it complete.

It’s been a busy week, here’s some places I’ve spotted my items online, thank you all!!!  These are some great sites, take a look:

Fashionably Warm - E.T. Shop of the Week

adam and eve cowlWinter isn’t my favorite season.  I get through it by bundling up, in many, many layers, scarves, mittens and hats.  I really enjoyed looking through the Etsy Twitter Team’s shop of the week, beautiful bridget and imagining myself wrapped in one of her crochet creations.  This one’s my favorite because with the two-toned colors--it would match everything I wear.

Did you visit beautiful bridget? Do you have a favorite?

She also offers free shipping on all orders shipping within the USA and Canada!
