Studio Tour Tomorrow

September 29, 2006
Well, I didn't get as much done as I would have liked to, but I did the best I could.
Some of my new projects that I'll be showing are at my flickr site.

I think I have more new items than last year - I don't want to people to see my same old dragons and mermaids all the time. It was really hard, I wanted to do so many more things, but I waited for the last minute... now it's crunch time - just 24 hours to go before it begins. I thought more people would want to see the process, but last year they didn't, so I'll just bring a miscellaneous basket of "body parts" for kids to grab at, and just in case anyone wants to see me needle sculpt a face, I can do that, too -- but I won't be lugging around my entire sewing kit. Knitting needles & new kitties to make=yes.

I had a lot of fun using what I had - the bags were all recycled from thrift store/yard sale wool sweaters that I felted. Each of the frogs was made from fabric remnants that I had from previous projects (except Prince Bert - he was the Ugly Fabric challenge from dollstreet). And the kitties were all knitted from yarn remnants, too. I really wanted to make some more tote bags and more fabric jewelry (see previous posts with house charms and fabric beads.) I have a fantastic idea for fabric cuff bracelets that should be super comfy & fun... next week I will be doing that if not tomorrow night.

For now I'm going to pack everything up b/c I won't be opening my studio to the public (that would be a health hazard) and make sure everything is tagged. Then I'll see how late I want to stay up making business cards and some Robot Love buttons (these will be so cute, you know I'm going to stay up and make them!)

I already have plans to put some items on etsy early on next week, so if you want to be notified of when buttons, halloween items or unsold bags will be appearing - just send me an email.

We got lots of local press, so there should be a good turnout.... I hope I can sleep tonight!

No-Care Kitties

No stray hairs, litter boxes to clean or claws to clip here:

Four Seasons

September 27, 2006
I started these tree dolls over a year ago, I can't believe it took so long to finish them - and there wasn't even that much left to do. They were quilted, sewn & embellished & the heads were all made - I just had to finish assembling and stabilize them. I think waiting gave me some advantages though, I had some new ideas and ribbons to use around the faces.

Fabric Bead Necklaces

September 24, 2006
I like making jewelry & wasn't thrilled with just beading & wires - so I'm working fabric into the things I like. Here's the first two, one more with these fabrics coming up. These are strung on silk cord and about 30" long each.

You can find these at my etsy shop.

Recycled Sweater Bags

September 19, 2006
These 3 bags are completed, 4 or 5 more to go. I don't think I'll be buying wool sweaters anymore to felt - it's just too thick to work with. Although I do have a bunch of wool scarfs to work with. Interlude for doll making today & tomorrow. recycled sweater bags

Procrastination & a new ring

September 16, 2006
supplies
I'm procrastinating in my sewing projects. This has been in the bag for a month because I kept braking the silver wire. I finally got some more & was inspired by The Joy of Beading by Anna Borrelli (affiliate link) & her Sea-Urchin Ring. Twenty minutes later, the results:
new ring
Although I have to say, it took longer to edit the photo than it did to create the ring... even that could use more work but not now.

WIP Friday ... do over

September 15, 2006

Too bad I didn't think this through before stabbing myself repeatedly until I ran out of thread.
Back to the drawing board for my frog prince crowns.

Frog Sneak Preview & a Tomato Face

September 10, 2006
Angelina Frog Here's Angelina. Her name came to me while I was sewing her body, inspired by you know who.. hence the eyelashes. Next is Frances, although he'll tell you "The F is for Frog". I'm redoing his eyes right now. The other two haven't told me their personalities yet...
F

Did the heading throw you off? My little one helped me cut up tomatoes for a sauce this morning and she was fascinated by this face:
The Sad Tomato
She says it looks like the Cowardly Lion. What do you think?

Clever Idea for Scrapbook Paper & Storage

September 8, 2006
Inspiration for this catch-all came from my daughter's "cootie-catcher" or fortune-teller as we used to call them when I was little. When I found a pile of beads on the floor, this was the only thing I had around to throw them into...
Wala! What a great idea!
How about a tiny one for beads? Or how about one made with fabric to hold jewelry on my dresser or game pieces in my family room???
Great. Just what I needed, another idea.

One is the loneliest number

rebel tomatoActually, there were two tomatoes. We ate one. Here's the other. Don't think I'll ever try container gardening again.

WIP Friday Felted Wool

enough wool

Felted wool sweaters and skirts -- ready to be made into totebags. I wish I had some frogs done to photograph, maybe before the sun goes down tonight. I am so addicted to reading people's blogs that I am spending less & less time doing my own work! Saturday is my "no pc" time so it should be a productive day.
Tomorrow I'm going to look for the metal things that make straps longer or shorter so these totes can be worn across the body - I've got to figure out what they're called before I go into the craft store, though! One more purple and pink sweater drying on the deck & I'll be ready to cut and sew. Since some of these are pretty thick, I'm going to sew all seams by butting them together and zig zagging. With interfacing and quilting, that should be pretty sturdy. I can't wait! (Must finish frogs first!)

Trying to do a project a day

September 4, 2006
House CharmsIf I can do [most of] a project a day - then I can feel prepared for Open Studio 2006. Here's the fabric jewelry/house charm display:
And some knitted cats - should I embroider faces on them or not? They'll have collars, but that may be all that I do for them.

Now a doll-in-progress. I want to make a teeny tiny doll & am not in the mood to sew it.... so here are the beginnings of a fairy-tale project I've been thinking of for a very long time... she has a long way to go!:

Tamdolls House Charm

One house charm down, three more to go. I have so many projects that I'm working on, if I get bored I can just move onto another one.
It took forever to get #15 seed beads for this project - now I can wrap these up and move back to the frogs. These charms were supposed to go along with my birdhouse project months ago.

It's only 2" x 1.25" not including the dangling bird.
